The Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) 2025 has been postponed in light of the devastating wildfires currently sweeping through Los Angeles, California. 

The festival, originally set to take place from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, will be rescheduled to a later date yet to be announced.

MIFF Chairman and Co-Founder Omen Ortiz released a statement on Instagram explaining the decision: “Because of the catastrophic wildfires that are heavily affecting Southern California, we at the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) are postponing our second 2025 edition, originally scheduled from January 30 to February 2, to a later date to be announced.”

He emphasized the festival’s solidarity with those impacted by the wildfires, particularly the Filipino community in the region, and called for continued support for fire relief efforts.

“At this time, as we pray for the people experiencing trauma and loss, we ask all to continue supporting the fire relief efforts,” he added.

Ortiz also noted the festival’s intent to honor the bravery of first responders and volunteers during the rescheduled event, including Filipino frontline workers who are courageously aiding in firefighting and relief operations.

“We look forward to announcing the new dates of this year’s MIFF where we plan to honor the frontline workers and volunteers, including the Filipino first responders, who are heroically battling the wildfires,” he shared.

The MIFF had been gearing up for its second edition following the success of its inaugural run.

The lineup includes 10 entries from the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), such as Jun Robles Lana’s acclaimed “And the Breadwinner Is…” and Jason Paul Laxamana’s “Hold Me Close.”

Additionally, the festival will feature screenings of historic Filipino classics, including “Genghis Khan” (1950) and “A Filipino in America” (1938) and the highest grossing Filipino film of all time, “Hello, Love, Again.”
